It's a new year of racing and back to putting things off till the last minute! Over the winter I was going to do several things but never touched the Kart at all. It is a Saturday and we race tomorrow so Joy and I pull the Kart out and look it over, we run out and get some fresh gas and it fires right up. Jaz sits in the Kart and she grew over the winter and now we have to move the seat back, problem is with the current seat post it won't move back any further. We run to the hardware store and walk around trying to figure out how to make some new mounts but can't come up with any ideas. We buy some new bolts and head back home. We just drilled some new holes in the seat and re-use the old mounts with new bolts. I ordered a new 2" seat harness but it hasn't arrived yet so we adjust her old 3" harness and load the Kart in the trailer and have everything ready to go.
We arrive at the track and see a lot of new faces. We walk around and check out the Karts and talk to a few people. The weather is great! Jaz gets in and runs with the new rookie class - this is just practice so no real racing going on. We find that we can move Jaz up a level to Junior 1 (11 years old and younger). The same rules and engines but the Kart has a minimum weight of 310lbs. We take her over to the scales and her Kart only weighs 270lbs, so we are going to have to add 40lbs!
She goes out with the Junior 1 field, they are more advanced and some have been racing for over 5 years. She will have a big learning curve this year! Pint sized racer girl says not to worry.
We get home and discovered that since we were out in the afternoon and not at night that we all got a little red from the sun. Mental note for next week - sunscreen!
