More rain thru the area just last night but it's Friday and what do we do on Friday? We race! We sat out last week because we thought it would just be too wet but enough is enough - it's time to go racing! We found a clear plastic license plate and Jamie spray painted it orange and put the number 14 on it. We will place it on our reserved pit stall tonight. Packed up and ready to go with time to spare. I decided to check Email before we left and I got an message from Ed stating that races are cancelled and rescheduled for Sunday at 1pm, I check their website and sure enough - I'm sure glad I checked before we headed out!
Jamie had "Camp Rock" set to record and had planned on staying up and watching it when we got home - She can now watch it Live!
Sunday morning and we head out to the track with sunscreen and head gear for rescheduled day racing. We forgot the sign for our pit stall that Jamie had made. 4 Karts show up for the Charger class. Jaz ran her hot laps and came across the scale at 318lbs (we only have to weigh 310lbs). I was thinking I could pull 5lbs off this week and still have a cushion of 3lbs.
Heat 1
Jaz started on pole but 14$ was first into the corner. Jaz held the #2 spot and was almost able to get around coming off turn 2 but was unable to make the pass. She finished second right on the bumper of the 14$. It was announced that they had re-zeroed the scale and it was initially off by 2lbs as Jaz now weighed 316lbs.
Heat 2
Jaz went into the first corner in last place and got stuck behind the 3rd place Kart. She stayed on their bumper but couldn't make the pass. We made an adjustment to the Kart that seemed to be in the right direction as the Kart seemed to handle better but she finished 4th.
Feature
I went to fire up the Kart on the starting line and the kill switch was missing! The plate had broken and the switch was just hanging by the wires. I looked around and found a used tie strap and quickly made a quick fix for the race. Jaz was 3rd in the first corner and was running pretty solid when she spun out in turn 2, as she was spinning around the Kart behind her hit her in the direction of the spin and Jaz was able to keep going but had lost a bit of ground to the rest of the field. Turn 2 turned out to be trouble as she spun 3 more times! The last time her nose ended up facing the infield, she gassed it turned around and popped back on the track. She paused to look around to make sure she was clear before going again, at least she kept her wits. Talking with some other drivers and they said turn 2 was slick and it was like driving on ice and the track had developed a rut coming out of turn 4 from all our storms that was bouncing the Karts and jolting the drivers pretty good. Jaz got her 4th place trophy and nothing makes a driver feel better than going home with a trophy!
