Unable to import .dbx files from Outlook Express into Vista Mail

A client purchased a new Vista computer and wanted their data from their old Windows XP computer copied over. The Windows Address book was able to import but when I tried to import the messages from Outlook Express 6 to Vista Mail that was when the trouble started. At first I pointed the computer to the Outlook Express .dbx files but the computer refused to see them. I checked to make sure that the "read-only" attribute was off but still no luck. I then copied them to a USB flash drive but still no luck and yes I made sure to remove the "read-only" attribute.

I even tried re-starting the computer but Vista just refused to see those .dbx files. Then I ran across fix, not really a fix but why Vista could not see those files. You have to have the files copied to the User space before Vista will see them. I had created a directory under the C:\ drive but I had to move the directory under the user name before Vista would import.

I had copied the files to:

C:\Old computer data\Outlook Express

I had to move them to:

C:\Users\"user name"\Outlook Express

I was then able to Import them into Vista Mail. After the import process I went ahead and deleted the Outlook Express folder that I had created.
