Profile storage space exceeded error message
I was working on a pretty infected computer running Windows XP with SP3 installed. I ended up having to perform a Windows repair on the system using a new user account. I ran all the Window updates with the new user and everything seemed OK. I logged back in with the original user account and got this red X in the task bar with the "Profile storage space exceeded error message". Right clicking on the error did nothing so I went ahead and opened it and a window opened showing a list of files and telling me I had to move some files off to external storage, blah, blah, blah... What the heck?
Turns out the repair is an easy registry fix.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
In the right pane, delete these values (some may not be
present):
EnableProfileQuota
ProfileQuotaMessage
MaxProfileSize
IncludeRegInProQuota
WarnUser
WarnUserTimeout
The system I was working on only had the "EnableProfileQuota" value and once I deleted it, no more error message!
** Of course you know the dangers of editing the registry and of course you will back it up before you do this but you are still on your own and I'm not responsible for Global warming or the economy and of course your computer!
