Windows Update has the message Software Update Incomplete or Administrators Only

 

Please try the following steps:

Step 1:  Clean out your Temporary Internet Files

    1.  Double-click My Computer

    2.  Right-click the C: drive

    3.  Click Properties

    4.  On the General tab, click the Disk Cleanup button

    5.  Make sure Temporary Internet Files is checked.

    6.  Click OK.

    7.  Answer YES when asked if you are sure.

    8.  Try starting Windows Update again

 

Step 2:  Remove ActiveX controls

    1.  Click Start

    2.  Click Search

    3.  Click For Files or Folders

    4.  Type iuctl.dll in the All or part of the filename box

    5.  Change Look In: to Local Disk (C:)

    6.  Click More Advanced Options

    7.  Check box in front of Hidden files and folders

    8.  Click Search

    9.  Delete all instances of iuctl.dll.

    10. Click New Search

    11. Type iuengine.dll in the All or part of the filename box

    12. Change Look In: to Local Disk (C:)

    13. Click More Advanced Options

    14. Check box in front of Hidden files and folders

    15. Click Search

    16. Delete all instances of iuengine.dll.

    17. Try starting Windows Update again.

 

Step 3:  Digital signatures damaged - register DLLs

    1.  Click Start

    2.  Click Run

    3.  Type cmd

    4.  Click OK  (A command prompt window will open.)

    5.  Type net start cryptsvc

    6.  Press ENTER

    7.  Type regsvr32 softpub.dll

    8.  Press ENTER

(A box will open, click OK.  This will happen each time you press ENTER.  Keep OK'ing the box.)

    9.  Type regsvr32 wintrust.dll

    10. Press ENTER

    11. Type regsvr32 initpki.dll

    12. Press ENTER

    13. Type regsvr32 dssenh.dll

    14. Press ENTER

    15. Type regsvr32 rsaenh.dll

    16. Press ENTER

    17. Type regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll

    18. Press ENTER

    19. Type regsvr32 sccbase.dll

    20. Press ENTER

    21. Type regsvr32 slbcsp.dll

    22. Press ENTER

    23. Type regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

    24. Press ENTER

    25. Close the command prompt window.

    26. Try Windows Update.
